Report of medical fitness for drivers
Do you have to undergo an examination of medical fitness for drivers level 3 or 4? In this case, we ask you to contact us first on +41 61 821 82 60, as our capacities are limited.
Process:
In order for us to be able to get an initial impression of your case, we first need the relevant letter from you from the road traffic authority ("order" or "legal hearing"). Please send this to us as soon as possible. As soon as we have checked the documents, you will receive an advance payment letter from us.
Immediately after receipt of payment on our bank account, we will arrange a timely examination appointment with you. The waiting period is approx. 4-6 weeks.
We ask that you bring the following with you to the examination:
- Official photo identification (e.g. identity card, passport).
- Visual aids (if required to drive a motor vehicle).
- Any existing reports and/or certificates (e.g. doctor's letters, urine sample results, progress report regarding addiction therapy talks, diabetes booklet, etc.).
The traffic medical examination takes about 1.5 hours and includes the following points:
- Detailed medical discussion.
- Physical examination (whole body status).
- Eyesight and hearing test
- Urine test (the urine must be dissolved by us, so please do not go to the toilet just before).
- Blood test (optional - depending on the reason for the test).
- Obtaining a scalp hair sample to check for alcohol or narcotics consumption (optional - depending on reason for investigation). Therefore, we recommend you not to cut your hair (required length at least 5 cm), to dye, to tone, to bleach or perm and not to use hair lotions.
After the examination has been completed, the report will be completed within approx. 2-3 weeks and sent to the administrative authority in due course. You will then be informed of how to proceed in the form of an order from the road traffic authority.

Finally, a few tips on the subject of "proof of abstinence": Depending on the reason for the assessment, abstinence from alcohol and/or drugs for a certain period of time must be maintained and proven in advance. The period of time is determined individually (usually this is at least 6 months) and ordered by the road traffic authority as part of the "Requirements for re-registration". If there are any ambiguities in this regard, we recommend that you contact the responsible authority immediately, otherwise there will be considerable delays in the process as part of the preparation of the expert opinion and thus your re-admission.
The re-registration requirements laid down by the Road Traffic Office should definitely be continued and documented up to the date of the traffic medical examination, even if this should result in a longer period of abstinence. In the context of hair sample analysis, it is currently not possible to reliably differentiate between active cannabis use and passive exposure. Therefore, at present, proof of cannabis abstinence is only possible by means of repeated urine sample controls. These should be done at 3-4 week intervals.
The specifications listed in the information sheet "Procedure for proving cannabis abstinence" the information sheet "Procedure for proving cannabis abstinence" from the Traffic Medicine Section of the SGRM must be strictly observed and the corresponding implementation must be certified by the examining body.
